A New Beginning... Again.

At least a couple of times a year I hit bottom and get fed up with my weight.  I then start some sort of diet and workout routine to get things going.

"This time it's different," I say to myself.  "This time I'm really tired of being overweight so I'm going to lose the weight."

Without fail, 2 or 3 weeks later I'm back to my old habits with a vengeance.

I'm hoping put an end to that cycle.  A couple of weeks ago I went for a health screening.  I got my results last week and everything was normal except next to my BMI (Body Mass Index) there was the word OBESE in big, bold, letters.

So now I'm back on a diet and I have to say, "This time it's different."  Seeing the word obese on my health screening results has really motivated me.  I'm tired of feeling bad about myself.  All that it takes is a little discipline.  I can do it.

I think that I've found a diet that works for me.  I'm using the Lose It! iPhone app which is basically a calorie counter.  I have to say that the app is pretty good.  There is a large amount of food in the database and the interface is easy and intuitive.

I like this diet so far because I can eat whatever I want, I just have to stay within around 1700 calories.  The app states that I will lose 2 lbs a week at this rate.  I'm trying to jumpstart things a bit so I am limiting myself to 1400 calories instead.

It's been 4 days so far and things are going great.  I cut out soda and I'm drinking one coffee a day.  Other than that I'm drinking water.  I won't be drinking beer for a while.  It costs too many calories!  My meals have consisted of low calorie choices such as chicken and brown rice.  For breakfast I've been eating low calorie muffins and granola bars.

We'll see how well I do with the diet this weekend.  The weekends are always the toughest part of a diet for me.  I'm going to try to stay busy and maybe even hit the gym to stay on track.
